We all hear about the latest breakthroughs and all in all we are amazed how stuff keeps on improving. However, there is another, much more important, form of science which we actually see everyday: the science of learning and communication. This science can only be practiced, I believe, by people who have been either trained in or have experience with scientific research methods and approaches.
When we visit a hospital, a factory or a research laboratory we observe how methodical, organized and logical a scientific study must be. This is not just a matter of being organized and logical, though. In the case of scientific studies, the methodical, organized and logical study may be executed by an individual, by a team, or by a committee – and the whole thing may be accomplished with or without any formal training or education. The point is that it must be methodical, logical and well thought through. The experience of being in a scientific study gives the experienced person a sense of how a scientific study works, and this sense is important when it comes to teaching other people about science.
Science does not merely just comprise of one method or one approach. There are a myriad of approaches and methods within the science of learning and communication. If we were to examine any one of these approaches, we might think that it is easy to understand, easy to learn and easy to do. But a careful examination of the method or approach would reveal that this is not necessarily true. Some approaches are much easier to understand than others, some are easier to learn than others, and some are much easier to perform than others. A systematic examination of the different methods or approaches is required when it comes to scientific study or learning or communication.
If we were to investigate the methods or approaches thoroughly, we might realize that the best approach to learning scientific study is the systematic method of scientific research. Scientific research is a systematic approach to learning and this approach is so systematic that it is very rare to find a professional student who would not take advantage of the benefits of the scientific method when learning about scientific study. But what exactly is the scientific method?
In essence, the scientific method is the process of observing a phenomenon, isolating its key factors, examining those key factors to find the causes of the
